This sweet face was memorialized on his best friend’s arm. Eddie had had some of Cudi’s ashes made into a tattoo ink and wanted to use them in the tattoo process. I’d never done this before, or used an ink created specifically for this, so we talked about expectations before hand. We decided on a ritual approach, where we would use the special ink in strategic places in the design, but still do the tattoo with all my regular known tattoo supplies/inks. This was a really special tattoo and I’m grateful to have been about to help Eddie carry Cudi with him going forward. Tattoos are fun and you have free will, you can just pick your favorite things and put them on your body! A pacific tree frog and a tiktaalik (the world’s most famous prehistoric fish according to something I saw on the internet, if you didn’t know). You know, just a colorful bear smoking a pipe under a redwood tree 🐻 💨🌲 this one was a tribute to Gabe’s uncle in which he wanted to incorporate some of his uncles features into the bear. Some animal friends carry us through parts of our lives, becoming more to us than we ever imagined. Lauren chose to memorialize her beloved cat Jasper as her first tattoo, and I’m so grateful she chose me for this project. First off I love children’s book illustrations. I loved books as a child, and as an adult I’ve realized that my favorite books were from unique illustrators (Eric Carle, Dr. Seuss, Shel Silverstein, Ludwig Bemelmans, Faith Ringgold, Alexandra Day, Marcus Pfister, I could keep going). These tattoos scratched a special itch for me. Two ankle tattoos from their child’s favorite book. Not only were the images unique and beautiful, but I got to do more than just copy an illustration. With the sheep wrapping around the ankle, we were looking to create something that worked with her existing ankle tattoo. The clients also wanted a through line between their tattoos, so we landed on the fish to satisfy this need. I’m so happy with how these tattoos turned out and I’d love to do more like this. During my apprenticeship I made a little painting of a fig. Becky having grown up with a fig tree at home, booked in for this as one of my apprentice tattoos and planned to travel here to LA to come get it. Due to the fires last year and then some travel issues, this tattoo has been a long time coming!! But Becky finally got her fig and we added a little slice too.
